“UFC Postfight Show on FUEL TV” Notes For UFC ON FUEL TV: GUSTAFSSON VS. SILVA

Gustafsson Ready For Title Fight, Stann Mixed It Up and Sonnen Surprised By Bahadurzada

The following are quotes from the “UFC Postfight Show on FUEL TV” about UFC ON FUEL TV: GUSTAFSSON VS. SILVA.  Jay Glazer hosted the show, with analysis from UFC Middleweight No. 1 Contender Chael Sonnen and UFC Vet Mark Munoz. Karyn Bryant conducted exclusive postfight interviews backstage in Sweden. Here’s some of what was said:

“UFC Postfight Show on FUEL TV” Analyst Chael Sonnen on Gustafsson’s victory over Silva: “Gustafsson looked like Dominick Cruz tonight. Silva came out to fight, but he got outfought tonight. Alex just kept moving.”

Sonnen on what happened to Silva: “It went from bad to worse for him in this fight. He’s got a disadvantage going in and the crowd’s against him. From a technical standpoint, once Gustafsson started hitting Silva, Silva started covering up and that’s when you’re not scoring points.”

“UFC Postfight Show on FUEL TV” Analyst Mark Munoz on how Gustafsson beat Silva: “If you allow Gustafsson to dance around the cage, he’ll have his way with you. You have to put your head in his chest and dirty box him. Thiago was just following him around the cage with the constant movement.”

Sonnen on Gustafsson’s next fight: “Gustafsson’s won his last five fights. There’s never been someone to win five fights in a row and not get a title fight. Gustafsson could go against any of the top guys in the weight class. Henderson is waiting in the wings for a title fight. Gustafsson might have time for another fight before he gets his title chance.”

Munoz on Gustafsson’s next fight: “He’s able to get to Jon Jones if Jones gets past Rashad. If you look at the top fighters in the class, they’ve all fought for the title. Let’s let Gustafsson go for the title and mix it up.”

Exclusive postfight interview with Alexander Gustafsson on his game plan in the fight: “I knew Silva had good power in the punches and good wrestling. I just kept moving.”

Gustafsson on who he wants to fight next: “I want to fight the top five guys in my division. I want to fight number three or number four, but if you give me the title shot I will be ready for it.”

Sonnen on Brian Stann’s victory over Sakara: “The thing about Stann is, he comes out and he draws a line in the sand and stands it.”

Munoz on Stann’s victory over Sakara: “He put his chin down and threw bungalows today. I liked his variety with punches, knees and an elbow.”

Exclusive postfight interview with Brian Stann on his win over Sakara: “I didn’t expect him to come out in the middle of the Octagon. It surprised me. I was lucky enough to get the win. He has fast hands. We wanted to punch with him. He’s good at one-twoing you and backing away. I tried to get more diversity in my strikes and be more unpredictable.”

Stann on what’s coming up next: “I want to get back in the gym. It’s been tough on my family and wife while I’ve been preparing for this fight. I almost pulled the fight six weeks ago. Family and God come first, everything else is second. Luckily the camp was in Atlanta and my family was there with me. If fighting or anything else gets in the way of my family, my family comes first.”

Sonnen on Siyar Bahadurzada’s knockout of Paulo Thiago: “He surprised the heck out of me. Paulo has a lot of experience. This was a head-on collision.”

Munoz on Bahadurzada’s victory: “Siyar got Thiago right on the chin and that’s what put him out.”
Exclusive postfight interview with Siyar Bahadurzada, on his knockout of Paulo Thiago: “The best thing for a fighter is getting a KO. I trained very hard and finally the hard work paid off. Those punches are knockout punches. Those are the punches I throw a lot in training. Thiago was in the wrong place in the wrong time.”

Bahadurzada on why he fights for Afghanistan: “The only reason I have Afghanistan on my shoulder, I want to show that my country has something good to offer.”

BJ Penn on his retirement: “Dana White has called me a few times, but I’m staying retired. I’m opening the UFC BJ Penn Gym in Oahu. I’m still training and teaching in my gym. I can’t see the scenario that would get me come back. I’m going to sit back and watch all the other guys kick butt in the Octagon.”
