San Clemente's frother Pat Gudauskas will be representing the US on the 2010 ASP "Dream Tour." Pat officially qualified after securing a third place at the Canary Islands 6-star WQS event, held last week.
The surfer had a stellar year on the QS so far and unlike last year, when he almost made the cut, this time the deal is closed. We are looking forward to what he can do on the "big leagues." Congratulations Pat!

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California (Sunday, November 8, 2009) – The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) had an action packed week with the unfolding of two ASP 6-Star PRIME events. Nathan Yeomans (San Clemente, CA), 28, claimed the O’Neill Cold Water Classic California earlier today and fellow San Clemente native Patrick Gudauskas, 23, officially qualified for the 2010 ASP Dream Tour when he finished third at the Islas Canarias Santa Pro in the Canary Islands.
Gudauskas, who was only one position shy of qualifying for this year’s ASP Dream Tour, went on an absolute tear on this year’s competition and his result off of the Moroccan coastline secures his position amongst the world’s best competitive surfers for the first half of next year.
“I wanted to do well and get over the 14.000 points mark which is done,” Gudauskas said. “It would have been good to win the event because I love coming here and I really liked the waves today. To move the event down here was great. Next stop is Hawaii and I am looking forward at a strong finish.”
The San Clemente surfer tackled the big 10-foot (3 metre) surf on offer to earn the crucial result while breaking his board in the process.
“It was super heavy during the Quarters and I underestimated the conditions before paddling out,” Gudauskas said. “I broke my board on that huge set which I reckon was above the ten-foot range. There were a lot of sick waves out there and I just tried to get the bigger ones and make it through them.”
Surfers will continue their quest for a spot in next year’s ASP World Tour in Hawaii at the ASP 6-Star PRIME Reef Hawaiian Pro beginning on November 12, 2009.
