Danilo, 31, from Bahilo, Brazil is a relatively young guy in the big-wave scene. He moved to the North Shore of Oahu from North East Bahia. In the mold of the modern jet-set big-wave hunter, Cuoto paddle surfs Maverick’s, Todos Santos and the outer reefs of Oahu all in the same winter. His tow partner, Rodrigo Resende, is a legend in Brazil and has known him for a long time. He only recently begun mentoring him in the art of strapped surfing.
Cuoto’s learning curve has proven to be sharp as the talented goofy-foot has already managed to stand out during many heavy sessions at Jaws on the North Shore of Maui, including the unforgettable but insanely crowded session of December 15, 2004. According to Ken Collins, “Danilo is the coolest Brazilian I have ever met. I don't even think he is really Brazilian. He is way too relaxed and cool. I have run into him many times around the world chasing giant swells. And every time I've seen him he has this huge smile and killer vibes just floating around him. One of my favorite guys to see in the water.”
He has had many great moments in surfing history, but his attack on paddling Jaws has raised the bar in big wave surfing. Danilo is nominated for “Monster Paddle” at the 2012 Billabong Global Big Wave Awards.
